Product Design Example - Aquatina
This project was taken from start to finish by the Wares team, from the initial concept sketching to the final tooling for production. The commercial success of Aquatina, the world’s first collapsible pocket bottle, continues to reach new heights with its introduction in over 300 new stores nationwide, including Blacks, Howies, Millets and Robert Dyas. Worldwide distribution channels are also growing, with Aquatina bottles now on sale in Holland, Japan, Hungary, France, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, Spain, Canada, Italy and Chile, with the US set to be added to the list imminently.

This means that the company also joins the roster of Dragons’ Den rejects that have gone on to great things. In Aquatina’s particular experience, a plastic water bottle was famously thrown across the studio by an irate Duncan Bannatyne. In stark contrast to this experience, retailers are recognising the appeal of an easily portable and reusable bottle - which has none of the harmful effects of disposable plastic bottles - and are giving Aquatina an overwhelming vote of confidence that is translating into increased sales and distribution.

Guy Jeremiah, MD of Aquatina said:
“To have Aquatina collapsible bottles available nationwide, and internationally, means we’re now in that luxurious position of being able to cast the Dragons aside, and not vice versa! It’s pretty clear that the Dragons were the only people who didn’t understand the value of our product. It’s handy, convenient and sustainable and makes a great alternative to buying bottled water.”

Adrian Gunn, commercial director at Howies added:
“Aquatina bottles are a great ‘add to basket’ product for us. It’s simple and does exactly what it’s designed to do. Our overall feelings about it are very positive and our sales have shown that the public absolutely loves the product.”
